Empathy Test

Alpha Chrome Yayo An absurdly catchy, hook-laden track from synthwave's rad scientist Eli Raybon. But to simply leave it there would be to do it a huge disservice.

This wasn't simply written or produced, anything as soulless as that. It was born, fizzing to life in a mess of brains in jars and battery acid. You can smell the solder, hear Raybon throwing the oversized switch as his creation rises from the slab.

It'll dig into your brain, but in the loveliest way. As Eli sings himself, it's no cause for concern.

about

From the upcoming sci-fi adventure, Supertoys

"Raybon’s not interested in mere imitation; he creates a unique and disorienting wash of sounds which race through your brain, igniting infinite neurons in a series of wildly unpredictable movements."
- Joshua Pickard, The Southern Sounding

"...strikes a gorgeous balance between longing for the past and dreaming of the future." - Mike Olinger, Northern Transmissions

"Raybon’s lyrics are particularly insightful, compressed with throwback mechanics to urge the listener to recall the child-like innocence that continues in small traces within all of us, even as adulthood seems to bring about coldness and violent detachment." - James Scott, B-Sides & Badlands

"It’s got the avant-garde of Tangerine Dream and surefire catchiness of Neon Indian." - Ben Malone, Nü Sound

"The musical side of things is so deep and dense that fans will have to play the song multiple times before hearing everything that has been contained within." - James McQuiston, NeuFutur Magazine

lyrics

Empathy Test

Sit still, slow your breathing
We'd like to be sure we get an accurate reading
Stop your protests, don't try to resist
We've come to administer an empathy test

We wanna know what's in your head
What makes your ticker tick
I promise you it's painless
The procedure is very quick
We wanna know what's in your mind
It's no cause for concern
We'll check for faulty wires
And make sure your gears still turn

Settle down, we're receiving
A steady stream of data that will tell us what you're dreaming
How does it feel to have your buttons pressed?
Your synapses under the stress of an empathy test

We wanna know what's in your head
What makes your ticker tick
I promise you it's painless
The procedure is very quick
We wanna know what's in your mind
It's no cause for concern
We'll check for faulty wires
And make sure your gears still turn

Empathy test
Each memory compressed
Be patient while we wait for your results
Empathy test
Your circuits all connect
The evidence is indisputable

We wanna know what's in your head
What makes your ticker tick
I promise you it's painless
The procedure is very quick
We wanna know what's in your mind
It's no cause for concern
We'll check for faulty wires
And make sure your gears still turn
